National Mill Dog Rescue is delighted when a group decides to share their volunteer experience with us. Whether the group is from a school, church, corporation, or any type of organization, volunteering together is an excellent bonding experience. While the help and support is always greatly appreciated, we are an all-volunteer organization whose primary focus is rescuing dogs from puppy mill situations, caring for them, rehabilitating them, and finding them forever homes. Facilitating groups requires additional trained volunteer resources and oversight in order to provide an educational volunteering experience and ensure the safety of both dogs and volunteers.
To help offset this additional responsibility, we do ask each group to support National Mill Dog Rescue’s mission. This support can include:
- Bring needed supplies/donations (see NMDR Wish List)
- Bring a financial donation;
- Run a donation collection/fundraiser before your volunteering event (see NMDR Action Kits);
- Work through your corporation or organization to attain a charitable contribution or select a high-level project to complete for NMDR (contact michele@milldogrescue.org for possible projects >$1,500).
For each Group Volunteering Event, we will provide an experience which includes a facilitated educational presentation, a guided facility tour, an organized and supervised volunteering activity (cleaning or project work), and socializing time with the dogs (to include puppy parties - weather and situation permitting)
Note:
Volunteer Groups have a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 20 individuals. For volunteers under the age of 18 you must provide a minimum of a 1:5 adult to youth ratio (see the Youth Group Policies in the Handbook).
All volunteers must bring a signed NMDR Visitor Liability Waiver - co-signed by parent if <18.
Volunteer Groups must identify a Group Coordinator who is responsible for: communications with NMDR; appropriate supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of group members; coordination for group while volunteering; and ensuring all members adhere to NMDR rules and procedures.
Based on the group’s contribution level, group volunteers will receive:
1. Print a Visitor Liability Waiver. The Coordinator must collect
and bring the signed waivers to the group event.
2. Review the Volunteer Handbook
3. Complete an online Group Volunteer Application-
you will be contacted via email upon receipt to
coordinate details.
